PYRE
It's time for a change, don't you think?

history
There are a lot of things speculated about Pyre, but there are very few things that are known for certain. Their age is an estimation, they have not been confirmed to be human, and any attempts to collect or monitor their vitals signs have failed. There are assumptions people have made, but few things are known for certain.
What is known is that three years ago, Pyre was found by Oliver Rothschild, president and founder of Red Shield Futuristics, a research company dedicated to improving the human condition. Their current focus has been on the recent (within the last 70 years) development of metahuman mutations leading to yet to be explained powers and abilities, with their latest development being a scanner that can trace the release of energy common in most mutations. They were alerted to an incredible surge of power, and following that surge led them to what, at first glance, seemed to be a farm in rural America.
Further investigation of the farm led to the discovery of what seemed to be some sort of ceremonial pyre that had been burned to ash. Wood, stone, and glass was laid in a peculiar, circular pattern, leading to the remains of a wooden structure that had been set ablaze. Within that structure was… A person. They were breathing, but any attempts to register a pulse led to those touching them to be confused and borderline-catatonic. Releasing them put them back to normal, at least, so no harm no foul. Oliver decided to stay with the body, while the rest of his team scoured the farm for any explanation as to what had happened.
Eventually, Pyre woke up. Upon questioning, it became clear they would provide no answers. They remembered nothing before waking up - not their name, age, nothing at all. They were a completely blank slate. Deciding they must have been the source of the energy surge, Oliver offered them a place to stay with Red Shield Futuristics - which would also give him the opportunity to study them.
Unfortunately for Oliver, any attempt to study Pyre (who chose the name after Oliver explained that the structure they were found in was akin to a pyre) resulted in unusable data. Data was wildly inconsistent between tests, or there would be an equipment malfunction, or any other catastrophe that kept him from getting the answers he wanted. It became obvious Pyre was the source of this, though whether or not it was intentional on their part was… Less obvious.
Pyre spent their time outside of studies and tests… Well. Doing whatever it is they wished. They were unburdened by any sort of concerns about their missing past and the mystery of their existence, and chose to live their life without concerning theirself with things they deemed unworthy of their time. They enjoyed a life of luxury and hedonism, much to Oliver’s chagrin.
They didn’t concern theirself with many things outside of RSF’s walls, unless they were things that entertained them or brought them pleasure. The tension between metahumans and powerless humans had diminished over the years, replaced by the expectations that those with power and ability beyond human scope should use those “gifts” to protect and serve others. Some stepped up proudly, glad to use their powers to do things like fight crime, provide for their communities, and advance medical research, while some were more reluctant. All with known abilities were under scrutiny, though, with many being questioned as to why they weren’t stepping up.
That ain’t none of Pyre’s business, tho, so who cares.
personality
Pyre lives to do what Pyre wants. They enjoy the simple things, the fancy things, the carnal things. They desire and pursue those things openly and without shame, viewing such things as simply what they deserve. They think more people would be happier if they let themselves want and crave openly and pursue the things they desire. Why restrain yourself when you can enjoy things? As long as you’re not hurting anyone, who cares.
Not to say Pyre’s never hurt nobody. They’re selfish and manipulative, and enjoy toying with others and teasing them. They like seeing what makes people tick and how they can nudge things to get the outcome they want, though that usually tends to be embarrassing and humiliating their target. The one line they draw, though, is hurting someone physically, viewing violence as abhorrent and disgusting. They despise people who cannot control their temper, and the one thing they truly hate is anger.
Which is, perhaps, hypocritical of them. They’re well aware their actions can be harmful, but they believe that because they’re not leaving physical scars it’s fine and forgivable. It’s all in good fun, even if the only person having fun is Pyre - because that’s all that matters to them. They’re selfish and oblivious to the wants and desires of others unless they align with what they want. Or, if they’re aware, they try to sabotage other people’s attempts to get what they want if they decide the other party doesn’t deserve it. (Or, sometimes, if they just think their frustrations over being denied would be funny. Oliver suffers so much.)
To the public eye, Pyre is bubbly and cheerful and friendly, even though much of it is an act. There’s some kernel of sincerity to it - Pyre is often happier than not, even if they can exaggerate it. They put on an air of compassion, even as they calculate people and choose their actions and reactions more as a test of how well they understand a person instead of any actual, genuine concern.
They’re just kind of shitty, honestly, but they can fake at being an okay person.
abilities
Warp: Unbeknownst to Pyre, they have the ability to manipulate reality and shape it to be what they desire. They could topple nations with a thought, solve world hunger, or do any number of incredible things… If they wanted to, or knew they could. As it stands, all their power does is prevent Oliver from performing any research on them. Oops!
